Rationale
My intention for this cover was to personify and make a distinct division between an item of health and one that is opposing, so a capsicum held inside of fries packaging. Because of the seriousness of the article I chose to divert that energy into a more comical approach as a way of entertaining the target audience alternately rather than informing them. Personifying this object is an attempt at not only giving a comical outlook, instead, to also make reference to a statement mentioned in the article, "the challenge now is to make sure the food doesn't take control of us."
Rationale
My intention for this cover was to solely focus on Angela Merkel herself and reveal the given strain that the euro-zone, perhaps this is partially inclusive of the world as an entirety also, has forcefully applied themselves onto. There's a given dependency or responsibility placed on Merkel. So figuratively saying that the world is on her shoulders.

The style I'd adopted for this composition was one of simplicity through portraiture illustration. TIME Magazine is well known for fromting their magazine with a profile figure often that exhibits a neutral expression and direct eye-contact. The intent was to apply this approach to the cover as a way to withholding a sense of familiarity with the target audience.
